The Notre Dame baseball team put up a strong fight but fell short in a 12-7 loss to Lehighton on Friday. Despite an early lead and a late push, an explosive third inning from Lehighton proved to be the difference.
Notre Dame started strong, plating a run in the first inning, but Lehighton responded with an eight-run third inning and added four more in the fourth. The Crusaders answered with a four-run rally in the fifth and a final run in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
Clemente Cintron led the offensive charge with two hits, while Austin Casal and Paul Smith each added doubles. Casal also contributed behind the plate and later took the mound, throwing two scoreless innings in relief.
On the mound, John Hull took the loss, while Brayden Darios and Casal provided relief appearances. Despite giving up 12 runs, the Crusaders’ pitching staff allowed only three earned runs, with Lehighton capitalizing on walks and timely hitting.
Notre Dame-Green Pond will look to rebound on Tuesday as they return home to face Northern Lehigh.
