Notre Dame delivered a commanding 63-7 victory over Catasauqua on Friday night.
The Crusaders set the tone early in the first quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run, quickly followed by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Matt Bodnar. Bodnar then connected on a 39-yard touchdown pass to put ND up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. The offensive onslaught continued into the second quarter with a 5-yard rushing touchdown and a 26-yard scoring strike, giving the Crusaders a comfortable 35-0 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Notre Dame added a 3-yard rushing touchdown before the defense made a statement of its own. Drew Boyd intercepted a pass and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown, pushing the score to 49-0. Though Catasauqua managed to score on a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter, ND responded immediately with two more rushing touchdowns — one from 8 yards out and another from 6 yards — to seal the final score at 63-7.
Quarterback Matt Bodnar had an outstanding night, completing 19 of 24 passes for 249 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tommy Murphy also contributed, going 4 of 5 for 25 yards. On the ground, Jon Striba rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown on 4 carries, while Eddie Youngkin added 32 yards and a score on 3 carries. Carmine Diaz led receiving with 6 catches for 101 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown. Drew Boyd and Alex Clark also contributed with touchdown receptions of 47 and 45 yards, respectively.
Defensively, Christian Rivituso led Notre Dame with 12 total tackles, including 1 tackle for loss. Eddie Youngkin added 8 tackles, and Boyd’s 58-yard interception return for a touchdown was a key highlight. Including more key tackles from Austin Casal (7), Josh Scherer (6) and Sammy Morici (6). Nino Morici also added an interception, helping to stifle Catasauqua’s offense. Kicker Mark Talpas was perfect on the night, converting all 8 extra-point attempts.
With this decisive win, Notre Dame improves to 4-1. They face Northern Lehigh this Friday night under the lights for Senior Night.
