The Notre Dame boys track and field team battled to an 80-66 victory over Jim Thorpe, with standout performances across multiple events. The Crusaders showcased their strength in sprints, distance races, relays, and field events to come away with the win.
Leading the charge in the sprints, Alex Clark dominated both the 100m (11.80) and 200m (23.37), while Alexander Pirog ran an impressive 51.21 to win the 400m. The distance crew put together a strong showing, with Roman Perrucci winning the 1600m (5:05.93) and Noah Sharpe taking second. Darek Schaeffer secured the top spot in the 3200m (11:34.02), while Emmett Rieland won the 800m (2:20.92) and also took first in the pole vault (8-9).
Notre Dame’s relay teams played a crucial role in securing the team victory. The 4x100m squad of Clark, Aaron Gordon, Kalet Wilson, and Andrew Shupe crossed the line first in 45.84, while the 4x400m relay team of Pirog, Dante Azzolina, Gordon, and Shupe claimed another win in 3:45.15.
In the field events, Aaron Gordon won the long jump (17-07.50), with Pirog finishing just behind him in second place. Jack Kothstein took first place in the javelin (126-6), while Duncan Mitchelltree and Pirog finished second and third, respectively.
It was a strong team effort that helped Notre Dame secure the win, and the team will now set its sights on their next meet at Pen Argyl on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
