• Sumpolec then faced Tyler Morrison (West Perry) but was narrowly defeated 2-0. He will wrestle at 9:00 AM today, with the possibility of competing for third if he wins or fifth if he loses.

215 lbs:

• Jake Conroy (Ringgold) beat Connor Smalley (Notre Dame GP) with a dominant 17-9 major decision.
• Decker Bechtold (Owen J. Roberts) followed with a 6-2 decision over Smalley.

Muller battled his way through the bracket, rebounding from a tough 8-6 decision loss to Nico Emili (Becahi) by dominating Derek Fulmer (Nazareth) with a 7-0 decision. He secured his state berth with a fall over Jackson Max (Emmaus) in 4:13, locking in a 3rd place finish.

133 – Tanner Berkenstock (3rd Place, State Qualifier)

After an early setback with a quick pin by Jack Campbell (Nazareth) in 0:35, Berkenstock stormed back in the consolation rounds. He earned a hard-fought 13-8 victory over Omar Morales (Central) and then took control against Alex Kadryna (Selinsgrove) with a 7-1 decision to claim 3rd place and his ticket to states.

139 – Gavyn Kelton (2nd Place, State Qualifier)

Kelton impressed early with an 8-4 decision over Christopher Kelly (Easton) but fell short in the finals against Tahir Parkins (Nazareth), who won by technical fall (21-6 in 1:19). Kelton still secured a 2nd place finish and a well-earned spot in the state tournament.

145 – Jared Gonzalez (4th Place, State Qualifier)

Gonzalez fought through a challenging bracket, losing by technical fall (17-2) to Michael Turi (West Scranton) before bouncing back with a 4-0 decision win over Kiovanny Hamlin (Dieruff). He battled but fell in the 3rd place match to Caleb Hoffman (Wyoming Valley West) by major decision (14-6), ultimately placing 4th and advancing to states.

152 – Stephen Bialek

Bialek had a strong opening match, defeating Luke Brazanskas (Delaware Valley) 9-3, but saw his run end with a 1:35 pin loss to Luis Desilva (Frankford). With that, Bialek’s high school wrestling career came to a close. We are so proud of all of his accomplishments the last four years!

160 – Keegan Ramsay (3rd Place, State Qualifier)

Ramsay fought through the 160-pound bracket, bouncing back from an 8-5 loss to Jesse Scott (Emmaus) with a 56-second pin over Brendan Cooke (Athens). He sealed his trip to Hershey by defeating Quentin Hammerstone (Easton) with an 8-0 major decision, earning 3rd place.

189 – Dominic Sumpolec (2nd Place, State Qualifier)

Sumpolec had an impressive run, dominating Shae Linegar (Easton) with an 11-1 major decision before falling in a razor-thin 3-2 ultimate tiebreaker loss to Brayden Zuercher (Nazareth). He finished 2nd and secured his place at states.

215 – Connor Smalley (2nd Place, State Qualifier)

Smalley opened with a first-period pin (1:37) over Freddie Dinardo (Roman Catholic) before dropping a hard-fought 12-6 decision to Brody Rebuck (Shikellamy) in the finals. His 2nd place finish secured his ticket to states.

The Notre Dame Green Pond wrestling team put together a dominant performance on the opening day of the PIAA AAA Northeast Regional, with multiple wrestlers advancing through their brackets in impressive fashion at Liberty High School last night.

At 107 pounds, Cael Muller was unstoppable, securing a first-period pin over Mikel Roman (Pittston Area) in just 1:36 before cruising to a 12-0 major decision over Cooper Helm (La Salle College).

Aiden Vanicky (114) bounced back from an early setback against Damon Ross (Northeast High) with a commanding 16-3 major decision over Connor Garrison (Athens), keeping his tournament hopes alive.

In the 133-pound bracket, Tanner Berkenstock controlled both of his matches, earning an 11-4 decision over Louden Giza (Wyoming Valley West) before defeating Alex Kadryna (Selinsgrove) 7-2.

At 139 pounds, Gavyn Kelton showcased his offensive firepower, registering back-to-back technical falls over Keatin Lattimore (Shikellamy) and Nicholas Lyden (Freedom).

Jared Gonzalez (145) also impressed, pinning Mohammed Anas (Central) in 2:59 and following it up with a 9-1 major decision over Treyton Barrett (Athens).

Despite a tough 12-9 loss in the 152-pound division, Stephen Bialek rebounded with a 7-2 decision over Sean Peters (Athens) to stay alive in the tournament.

The Crusaders dominated at 160, with Keegan Ramsay pinning Luke Johnson (La Salle College) in just 38 seconds before earning another fall over Cole Wetzel (Shikellamy) at 3:56.

At 189, Dominic Sumpolec was relentless, earning a 17-2 technical fall against De'Shawn Woodhouse (Northeast High) and a solid 9-2 decision over Bradley Renninger (Blue Mountain).

In the 215-pound bracket, Connor Smalley delivered two quick pins, taking down Joe Johnson (Archbishop Wood) in 2:30 and Slate Sechrist (Jersey Shore) in just 2:15.

With multiple wrestlers advancing to the next round, Notre Dame Green Pond is in strong position heading into Day 2 as they look to punch their tickets to the PIAA state championships.

Notre Dame put forth an outstanding performance at the District XI Championships at Liberty High School this past weekend, securing 2nd place as a team and advancing multiple wrestlers to regionals.

The Crusaders continue to display strength and resilience on the mat as they look ahead to their next match tomorrow vs. Pennridge at home. 

Keegan Ramsay (165) and Dominic Sumpolec (175) were the only two Notre Dame-Green Pond wrestlers still competing on Day 2 of the Ironman Tournament at Walsh Jesuit High School. 

Keegan Ramsay (4-2) – 7th Place (15.0 team points)

Keegan Ramsay had a strong showing on Day 2, earning a 7th-place finish and contributing 15 team points.

• Consolation Round 6: Ramsay secured a victory by fall over Riley Johnson (Skutt Catholic) at 4:02, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.
• Consolation Round 7: Ramsay fought a close match against Shane McFillin (Bethlehem Catholic), falling in sudden victory (3-0).
• 7th Place Match: Ramsay capped off his tournament with a win by medical forfeit over Bradlee Farrer (Pleasant Grove).

Dominic Sumpolec (3-2) – 6.0 team points

Dominic Sumpolec battled through Day 2, earning 6 team points for Notre Dame-Green Pond.

• Consolation Round 6: Sumpolec faced Waylon Cressell (Warren Central) in a tough contest, losing by decision (4-1).

Ramsay and Sumpolec’s performances stood out as they represented Notre Dame-Green Pond against some of the toughest competition in the nation, capping a strong effort for the team in the tournament.

The Notre Dame-Green Pond wrestling team faced elite competition at the prestigious Ironman Tournament at Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The Crusaders battled against some of the nation's top programs, with standout performances and gritty efforts across multiple weight classes.

Day 1 Highlights:

• 106 lbs: Cael Mueller (2-2) scored 4.5 team points with two strong wins in the consolation bracket. Mueller rebounded from an opening-round loss with a tech fall victory over Randen Wright (Bixby) and a decision win over Jacob Naylor (McDonogh School). His tournament ended in Round 4 after a tough loss to Eddie George (Blair Academy).
• 126 lbs: Cooper Feltmann (0-2) received a bye in the opening round but was defeated by Gauge Botero (Faith Christian Academy) and Josh Vazquez (Montini Catholic), finishing a hard-fought tournament without scoring team points.
• 132 lbs: Tanner Berkenstock (0-2) dropped two tough matches, including a narrow 8-6 decision to Curtis Zion Borge (Westlake) and a major decision loss to Drew Roggie (St. Christopher’s School).
• 138 lbs: Gavyn Kelton (1-2) earned 3.0 team points, including an impressive major decision win over Cameron Plotts (Perry). Despite a strong showing, Kelton was eliminated in Round 4 after a narrow decision loss to Ryan Kennedy (Spire Academy).
• 144 lbs: Jared Gonzalez (0-2) faced challenging competition, falling to Jason Dube (Spire Academy) and Peyton Hornsby (Center Grove).
• 150 lbs: Stephen Bialek (0-2) wrestled hard but was unable to advance after losses to Billy Greenwood (Poudre) and Tyler Hood (St. Christopher’s School).
• 165 lbs: Keegan Ramsay (2-1) had an outstanding day, scoring 8.0 team points. Ramsay recorded a first-period pin over Robbie Leahy (Brownsburg) and a thrilling tie-breaker victory over Nicholas Pina (Sunnyside). Ramsay advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to LaDarion Lockett (Stillwater). He remains alive in the tournament heading into Day 2.
• 175 lbs: Dominic Sumpolec (3-1) shone in his bracket, amassing 6.0 team points. Sumpolec secured wins over Connor Diemel (Hononegah), Brody Kelly (IC Catholic Prep), and Colin Wooldridge (La Salle) to stay alive in the consolation bracket. He will wrestle in the blood round tomorrow with a chance to secure a medal.
• 190 lbs: Connor Smalley (1-2) scored 3.0 team points with a dominant pin over Nolan McCarthy (Wyoming Seminary). His run ended in Round 2 of the consolation bracket.
• 215 lbs: Noah Knorp (0-2) wrestled valiantly but was unable to advance after major decision losses to Danny Zmorowski (Lake Catholic) and Danny Hoke (St. Paris Graham).

Looking Ahead:

Both Ramsay and Sumpolec will compete in the blood round on Day 2, needing one more win to secure a top-eight finish and a medal at the Ironman Tournament. Matches begin at 10:00 AM as the Crusaders look to continue their strong showing on the national stage.

Notre Dame delivered an overwhelming performance on the mat, dominating Southern Lehigh 69-3 in a decisive victory. The Crusaders quickly took control of the dual, benefiting from several forfeits and later showcasing their strength with key pins throughout the night.

The match started with a series of forfeits, as Tanner Shear (107), Cael Muller (114), and Aiden Vanicky (121) all earned easy wins by forfeit, giving them an early 18-0 lead. The first contested match saw Cooper Feltman (127) pin Southern Lehigh’s Connor Wayock in a mere 34 seconds, further extending their lead to 24-0.

At 133, Tanner Berkenstock faced off against Griffin King (SLH) in a competitive match, winning 11-6 by decision. ND's dominance continued as Gavyn Kelton (139) earned a pin over Keith Barker (SLH) in 1:09, followed by Jared Gonzalez (145) who secured another pin over Anastasios Kiprislas (SLH) at 1:46.

The momentum did not slow as Stephen Bialek (152) and Cole Kanuck (160) each added falls in 1:02, solidifying the Crusaders command of the match. SLH’s only win came at 172, where Brock Frable outlasted Keegan Ramsay in a tight 4-2 decision.

Notre Dame closed the night with a string of dominant performances: Dominic Sumpolec (189) won by forfeit, Connor Smalley (215) pinned Matthew Ryan (SLH) in 52 seconds, and Noah Knorp (285) earned another forfeit victory to cap the impressive 69-3 final score.
